Getting started

The setup guide on the Dashboard walks you through these steps. This article covers the same steps in more detail.

What you need

  • A PC at the packing table with Chrome or Edge, on Windows or Mac.
  • A 1080p USB webcam on an overhead arm, pointing down at the table.
  • A USB barcode scanner in keyboard mode. A 2D imager reads small labels best.
  • An external drive or NAS folder for the videos. Videos take space.

1. Connect the packing PC

  1. Open Find Packing in your Shopify admin and choose Make a connection link on the Dashboard (or Connect a packing PC in Packing PCs).
  2. Open the link in Chrome or Edge on the PC at your packing table. On the Dashboard you can use Copy link, or Open on this PC if you are already on that PC.
  3. Type a Name for this PC, for example "Packing table 1", and choose Connect this PC. If you leave the name empty, the PC is called "Packing PC" plus a number.
A connection link works once, for 30 minutes. Make a new link for each PC.

2. Turn on the camera and choose the save folder

  1. The packing screen opens. Allow the camera when the browser asks.
  2. Choose Choose folder and pick where videos are saved. An external drive or a shared/NAS folder is safer than the PC's own disk.

3. Run the station check

On the packing screen, open Settings and choose Run check under Station check. It tests the browser, save folder, camera, PC and scanner in about 30 seconds and tells you what to fix.

4. Add your packers

In the app, open Team & Lists and enter packer names, packing types and locations, one per line. Packers pick their name on the packing screen, and each recording keeps it. See Team and lists.

5. Print the command barcodes

On the packing screen, choose Print command barcodes. You get STOP, CANCEL, PAUSE and REDO barcodes to keep at the table, so packers can control recording without touching the PC.

6. Record your first package

  1. Scan a shipping label. Recording starts.
  2. Pack the order in front of the camera.
  3. Scan the same label again, or the STOP barcode. The video is saved under the tracking number.

When a customer complains

On the packing PC, open Video List, scan or type the tracking number and choose Save copy. See Find a video.
