Refund bonus and cashback
Automation gives credit without you lifting a finger: a bonus on refunds taken as store credit, and cashback on paid orders.
Refund bonus
When a customer takes a refund as store credit instead of money back, they get a little extra on top. Only the bonus is added; the refund itself is never changed.
- Open Automation and tick Add a bonus to store credit refunds.
- Choose a Mode: Ask me first (approve below) or Automatic.
- Set the Bonus % and when the Bonus expires after.
- Optionally fill in Skip orders or customers tagged (comma-separated tags).
- Click Save refund bonus.
Example: with a 10% bonus, a refund of 100 to store credit gives the customer 110 to spend.
Ask me first works on every plan. Automatic mode is on the Growth and Pro plans.
Approving bonuses
In Ask me first mode, each bonus waits under Waiting for approval with the order, customer, amount refunded to credit, bonus and time. Click Approve to issue it or Skip to drop it. The Dashboard shows a banner while bonuses are waiting.
Purchase cashback
Give store credit back on every paid order. If the order is refunded, the matching cashback is taken back automatically.
- Under Purchase cashback, tick Give cashback on paid orders.
- Set the Cashback %, an optional Minimum order, and when the Credit expires after.
- Optionally fill in Skip orders or customers tagged.
- Click Save cashback.
- Cashback is worked out on the part of the order paid with money. Store credit used on the order doesn't earn cashback.
- The customer gets Shopify's store credit email when cashback lands.
- On a partial refund, the same share of the cashback is taken back (up to what is still unspent).
Purchase cashback is on the Growth and Pro plans.
